Sean Brady is gunning for a fight with Belal Muhammad this August.

It has been challenging for the UFC’s No. 9 ranked welterweight to find a fight in the top 10. After getting turned down by numerous fighters, including Stephen ‘Wonderboy‘ Thompson, Brady is gunning for a fight with No. 5 ranked Belal Muhammad.

The problem is that Muhammad is turning down the fight as well, according to Brady. Instead, Brady believes Muhammad should fight down the rankings just like his last three opponents did to him.

Brady states his case

“The whole thing with Belal is, what I’m being told they’re offering Belal a fight with me and Belal is saying ‘no, I want to fight the guys ahead of me’ which I get. That’s what everybody’s trying to do,” Brady told ESPN in a recent interview. “Guys have fought down to fight Belal in the past. Demian Maia was ahead of him, Wonderboy was ahead of him. Vicente Luque was ahead of him. At some point, you’re going to have to do it.”

“So, all these guys fought down to fight him and if you look at the guys ahead of him that he’s trying to fight: Khamzat [Chimaev], I know for a fact he’s not fighting Khamzat, I can guarantee you he’s not fighting Khamzat. So it’s like, alright, that card is out, I know you’re not fighting him. Gilbert Burns wants a big fight. That’s not the fight that I’m sure Gilbert is looking for. Leon Edwards is fighting for the title. Colby Covington just got sucker punched and now he has brain damage that dude isn’t fighting for a while. So realistically, there is nobody it’s me and you and me and Belal were matched up.”

Canceled fight

Brady and Muhammad were scheduled to fight in 2020; however, Brady pulled out of the fight with an injury. But Brady says the fight wouldn’t have happened anyways because Muhammad had COVID.

“Unfortunately, when we were matched up I had to pull out the fight because I still had a fracture in my tibia, so I pulled out. It was just after I beat Christian Aguilera. We were gonna fight in December and it turns out he didn’t even get the fight anyway because he had COVID that week. He got rescheduled with I think Diego Lima, so that fight would have never even happened. So there’s no time with the present and it’s the fight to make,” Brady said.

“Nothing against Belal”

Brady is trying hard to get the Muhammad fight, but he does understand where the No. 5 ranked welterweight is coming from. He understands Muhammad worked his way to the top five and is gunning for a title eliminator, but he believes there is no one else for Muhammad to fight.

“I feel like when you’re in the top 10, it shouldn’t matter. You know, we’re the best guys in the world. And listen, I don’t have nothing bad against Belal. I understand what he’s trying to do. It’s the name of the game. But it comes to a point where there are no other moves to make, like, we see everything and there’s nowhere to go. Besides, this is the fight and the UFC is telling you this is the fight show. Let’s do it,” Brady said.
