  • Belal Muhammad revealed the current status of his potential title fight with Leon Edwards
  • “Remember The Name” will be hoping that the UFC finally give him the title shot he was promised

Belal Muhammad is holding on to what he was guaranteed despite catching wind that he wasn’t the UFC’s top choice to become Leon Edwards’ next title challenger.

Just staying positive

Speaking to The Schmozone with Helen Yee Sports, “Remember The Name” opened up about learning that the UFC bypassed him for three potential title challengers for Edwards. However, all of them said no.

According to Muhammad, it is becoming more and more apparent that he is the only deserving welterweight contender willing to take on “Rocky” at any given time. For Muhammad, it’s still up to the UFC but he is staying “positive” about the situation.

“No, I was never offered that for [UFC] 300,” Muhammad confirmed. “But honestly, when I look at it, I try to take a positive with everything. So, what does that tell me is that three guys turned it down. So three other guys just turned it down and if they really wanted Leon Edwards on 300, they know the guy who would’ve said, yeah, and it would’ve been me.”

“So, I don’t really think they really cared about Leon. For myself now it’s like, okay, well those three guys just turned it down. So if you are gonna rebook Leon for a title fight soon, I wouldn’t go to the three guys that just said no. I would go to the guy that continues to say yes and never said no, ever. So, I’m looking at the positive light of this whole thing,” he continued.

“No [they haven’t offered anybody],” he added. “I think they know as well as I do that there’s nobody else for me to fight, but Leon and the title fights. There’s nothing that makes sense. I still have the video of Dana saying, ‘you’re next’ and a hundred percent that I was fighting for the title next guaranteed. So, I’m just gonna take him at his word and Leon’s not booked. That tells me that’s still available and I think that it’s gonna work itself out.”

Edwards vs. Muhammad makes sense

It can be recalled that Muhammad has been previously reported to be Edwards’ next challenger. For some reason, the fight is still yet to be booked. Rumors later swirled that Khamzat Chimaev will be next for “Rocky” but “Borz” himself refuted it.

Judging by how the welterweight rankings look like, it appears that Muhammad has ticked all the boxes to be next in line. He has gone unbeaten in his last five fights against fellow top contenders and certainly, he has some unfinished business with Edwards with regards to their controversial fight back in 2021.
