Russian combat sports promotion Punch Club is taking the expression ‘fighting in a phone booth‘ literally with its oddly entertaining trend of having fighters compete against one another in unique locations.

The organization first started gaining attention online for ‘Punch Box’, a series of fights featuring two competitors who throw hands inside of a literal phone booth.

Of course, Punch Club didn’t stop there. Their next big event was a twist on submission grappling bouts with ‘Car Jitsu’ which is exactly what it sounds like. Two grapplers are put in the front seat of a vehicle and are hilariously buckled in adding a quick draw element to the already insane setting. When the horn sounds, competitors must quickly unbuckle themselves in order to make the first move and gain an early advantage. Punch Club has recently utilized vehicles for their MMA bouts as well which you can see in the below clip.

Vik Mikheev, the man behind ‘Car Jitsu’ says he came up with the concept in 2020 to study the application of jiu-jitsu in confined spaces.

“In 2020, I came up with the idea of doing competitive grappling in vehicles.

“Since October of 2020, I and my friends run small tournaments of Car Jitsu to study the aspects of jiu-jitsu application in such a confined space.“

Punch Club Introduces Its Latest Concept, ‘Punch Fall’

Punch Club’s latest offering is ‘Punch Fall‘. A combination of old-school jousting with bare-knuckle boxing, two fighters are perched atop what appears to be a shipping container suspended over a body of water. The two competitors then fight it out until one unlucky person falls off the makeshift platform and into the water below.

It’s just the latest from the organization that looks to push the envelope of what mixed martial arts can be and where it can be contested. While it’s highly unlikely that anyone would find themselves in one of these situations in a real-world setting, it’s intriguing to see the unique settings that the promotion squeezes its competitors into.
