- Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy predicted Ian Garry to stop Vicente Luque at UFC 296
- Roddy said “The Future” is already an MMA star
Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy weighed in on the upcoming welterweight showdown between Ian Garry and Vicente Luque. As expected, Roddy thinks the Irishman will prevail.
Ian is too much for Vicente
Speaking to The Mac Life, Roddy raved about how remarkable Garry is as a fighter, especially in striking. Roddy acknowledges Luque’s skills too but he is convinced that “The Future” is too much for him.
“He’s a very intelligent fighter, a very intelligent striker as well. I think the sky is the limit for him. I think he’ll be too clinical for Vicente. Vicente is a phenomenal athlete as well, but I just see Ian being a little bit too fast, a little bit too sharp and I can see him putting him away to be honest,” Roddy predicted.
An Irish star
Garry has always been vocal about his McGregor fandom. In fact, many already recognize their similarities. But according to Roddy, Garry is already a star in his own right.
“I think I wouldn’t even say he’s the next big thing in Ireland, because he’s already there,” Roddy said of Garry.
Garry is coming off a decision victory over Neil Magny at UFC 292 and will take on Luque at the much-awaited UFC 296. The fight will take place on December 16 at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gary has been exceptional in the UFC and he will come in looking to improve his unbeaten pro MMA record. On the other hand, “The Silent Assassin” is hoping to secure another win, having beaten former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
As it stands, Garry is sitting at No. 10 in the official welterweight rankings. Stating the obvious, a win over the No. 8 Luque will surely put “The Future” a step closer to the Top 5.
