- Ian Garry called Shavkat Rakhmonov out to be his next opponent
- “The Future” has manifested his journey to GOAT status
Ian Garry is eager to become the first fighter to beat Shavkat Rakhmonov and to be in the GOAT conversation.
Ian targets Shavkat
Speaking the media in his post-UFC 303 presser, “The Future” named Rakhmonov as his top target opponent for his next fight. According to Garry, he respects “Nomad” but he also wants to be the one the end his undefeated run.
“There’s some big names, there’s some cool matchups. There’s Shavkat, 18 and 0, undefeated and I’d love to get my hands on him. I’ve trained with him, I have nothing but respect for the guy, but I want to be the first guy to take his 0 and I know that I can do it,” Garry said.
It didn’t take long for Rakhmonov to respond to Garry’s callout. Apparently, “The Future” was telling the truth as he and “Nomad” have trained in the past. However, Rakhmonov suggested that he was beating Garry in those sessions and he would gladly do it again.
“Looks like Ian forgot what happened during those training sessions. I don’t mind reminding him in the future,” Rakhmonov wrote on X.

Ian wants GOAT status
The decision win over Michael Page at UFC 303 saw Garry improving his undefeated record to 15-0. He is still far from a title fight but “The Future” is already talking about becoming an MMA GOAT candidate.
“I am on my road to destiny to be one of the greatest of all time. I’m going to do that by any means necessary, and I don’t care how it gets done. In 10 years’ time, my name is going to be in that GOAT conversation,” Garry manifested.
“Who’s the greatest of all time? You’re going to say Jon Jones, GSP, Anderson Silva, Ian Garry,” he continued. “I’m going to have my name in that conversation because it’s opinion-based. If you’re Brazilian, you’ll say Anderson Silva, if you’re American, you might say Jon Jones. We could all sit here and have all of our opinions. As long as my name is in that conversation, I’ve had a successful career.”
Garry is expected to face another top contender in the welterweight division. As it stands, Rakhmonov is at No. 3, while Garry is currently at No. 7 and a match between the two is not that farfetched.
