Nick Diaz is looking forward to stepping back inside the Octagon sooner rather than later.

Despite a middling 7-7 record under the UFC banner and only four fights in the last decade, Nick Diaz continues to be a popular name among MMA fans. The cocky, and sometimes controversial demeanor of himself and his brother Nate Diaz have enthralled fans for years. While Nate Diaz opted to move on from the UFC following a fourth-round submission of Tony Ferguson at UFC 279, Nick Diaz is ready to climb back into the cage for his second fight in as many years.

Nick Diaz is Aiming for a Big Name in His UFC Return

Following the events of UFC 285 on Saturday night which saw another epic return to the Octagon, Nick Diaz spoke with InsideFighting. During the brief interview, Diaz revealed that he is hoping to book his next UFC contest quickly and is aiming for a fairly big name.

“I’m asking to fight as soon as possible,” Diaz said. “Yeah, something like that (Adesanya). That’s fine. I always wanna fight the best.”

After more than six years away from the sport, Diaz returned in September for a UFC 266 showdown with former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. Fans were excited to see Diaz return, but his performance left a lot to be desired. Diaz threw in the towel less than a minute into the third round, suffering his third straight defeat dating back to 2012. His last appearance prior to that was a 2015 main event clash with UFC legend Anderson Silva. ‘The Spider’ earned a unanimous decision victory, but it was changed to a no-contest after Silva tested positive for banned substances.

Fans will no doubt be excited to see Nick Diaz back in the Octagon this year, but a matchup against Israel Adesanya may be biting off a bit more than he can chew these days.
