Melendez wants to fight Alvarez next, let’s pray to the MMA gods that it happens

We all have that one fighter who hooked us in and convinced us that MMA was everything. If that fighter for you was Brock Lesnar then welcome to the world of MMA, where fighting is real for the most part. You may think Brock is a superman because he made Heath Herring comically fly backwards but there have been so many better fights than the ones you’ve selectively paid attention to because they were on the same card as Brock Lesnar. For example, Bellator have a habit of putting on a main card full of fight of the night contenders and by watching the fighter who hooked me on MMA, Eddie Alvarez you will see that his style epitomises the type of fight you’ll generally see on Bellator. Now that Alvarez is out of Bellator and openly negotiating with Zuffa, there’s one guy who’s almost cleaned out his division that wants a new challenge, Gil Melendez. Speaking with MMA Weekly Radio on Wednesday, Melendez said in the most polite terms possible that he’d be interested in a fight with Alvarez.

“Eddie is someone that I have respected for a long time and I would definitely welcome that. But you know, as much as I try to get excited for these and try to make these things happen, right now, I am trying not to get involved in that. I really don’t have that much say. I just let the promoters do it and hey, the power of the media, maybe you guys can help me out with that and the fans can make demands. But someone like Eddie would definitely interest me and definitely would motivate me. It’s nothing I am going to try to push for or waste my time over, but anything would be cool.”

Let’s pray to the old gods and the new that Eddie is signed to Strikeforce so we can see one of my favourite EA MMA matchups, after Aoki/Hansen. Hell, you can even pray to the Red God if you’re from Essos . In fact, I’m gonna boot up EA MMA now and play Melendez/Alvarez ten times and see who comes out on top the most. Does anyone want to take a stab at MMA Math for this match-up?
