Jorge Masvidal is bringing bare-knuckle MMA to South Florida with a surprise guest fighter.

Jorge Masvidal has moved on from MMA. He recently retired after his last fight at UFC 287 in Miami, Florida. The journey to that bout was an emotional one for Masvidal who is a Miami native and laid down his gloves for the very last time in front of his hometown crowd. Although his fighting career inside the cage is over his fighting career outside the cage is flourishing. Masvidal has put on his promoter hat and is holding events all over the country.

Recently Masvidal held a Gamebred boxing event that was a huge success. It featured several big-name fighters including Roy Jones Jr, Anthony Pettis, José Aldo, Jeremy Stephens, and more. Now he’s following that up with a bare-knuckle MMA event called Gamebred Bareknuckle that will feature another former UFC fighter, Roy Nelson.

Masvidal took to his Instagram to announce this next upcoming bare-knuckle MMA card.  He began this bare-knuckle venture last year and will now be holding this next event close to home. This will be the first time that bare-knuckle fighting has been sanctioned in South Florida and he’s bringing out some big names for this card.

“Big Country” Roy Nelson is probably best known for his time spent in the UFC, the heavyweight contender fought some of the best of the best while he was there in the organization. He faced off against Mark Hunt, Alistair Overeem, Daniel Cormier, and more. Following his UFC career he moved on to Bellator but hit a slump which lead to his release. Now he was taking on Dillon Cleckler in Gamebred Bareknuckle Fighting. Roy Nelson is 46 years old and has not fought since August 2020.

The event will take place at FLA Live Arena on May 5th.
