Mark Coleman Booked To Face Former Boxing Champion Montell Griffin In Celebrity Boxing Match

Coleman will box Griffin on Oct. 14 in a celebrity boxing match.

Mark Coleman will be getting back into the ring.

The former UFC heavyweight champion recently revealed that he would be returning to combat sports and would be boxing in a celebrity boxing match. At the time, many fans were worried as Coleman is 58 years old and has been retired since 2010, but he is sticking to his word and has been booked to face former boxing world champion, Montell Griffin, according to MMAMania.

The fight will take place on October 14 at an Official Celebrity Boxing event in either Miami, Fla. or Chicago, Il., airing on Fite TV. A pre-fight press conference for the event will be held on Aug. 5, 2023, according to the report.

Mark Coleman’s MMA career

Mark Coleman last competed in 2010 when he suffered a submission loss to Randy Couture in the first-ever UFC Hall of Famer vs. UFC Hall of Famer bout. The 58-year-old made his MMA debut in 1996 at UFC 10 and started out his career 6-0 and won the inaugural UFC heavyweight title with a submission win over Dan Severn.

After winning the UFC title, Coleman lost four straight fights and then started to compete in PRIDE. After a 13-fight run in PRIDE, Coleman returned to the UFC for the final three fights of his career as he went 1-2 with a win over Stephan Bonnar and losses to Shogun Rua and Couture. In his career, Coleman holds fought the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Cro Cop, and Don Frye among others.

Montell Griffin (50-8-1) is 53 years old and last competed in 2011 when he beat DeAndrey Abron by decision. The Illinois native is the former WBC light heavyweight champion and challenged twice for a world title. In his career, he holds notable wins over Roy Jones Jr., and James Toney while he lost to the likes of Jones Jr., Antonio Tarver, and Rico Hoye.
