- Benson Henderson’s wife Maria Henderson wins her pro MMA debut
- Maria pulled off a stunning submission move to finish her opponent in the very first round
Maria Henderson, the wife of former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson, was able to turn her excitement into results as she beat her opponent Melanie McIntyre in her pro MMA debut at LFA 135 in Phoenix.
What a way to start
Both Maria and McIntyre entered the cage as amateurs but it was the wife of the former UFC lightweight king that prevailed. Henderson started out aggressive, having landed a solid kick to body of McIntyre early in the fight. McIntyre, meanwhile, decided to go for a clinch that marked the beginning of the end for her maiden pro performance.
The pair ended up taking the fight to the ground where Maria was able to capitalize. She wound up taking a full mount that eventually led to a triangle keylock finish at the 1:42 mark of the Round 1.
For sure, Benson is proud of her wife’s epic debut performance that sent the Arizona Federal Theatre in a frenzy.
What’s next for Maria at LFA
Maria is currently fighting at the LFA’s women’s strawweight division where the strap is still up for grabs. With the way she performed in her debut, there’s a great chance Maria could soon become a favorite to compete for the title. Let’s see how things would play out for “Mouse.”
