Magny vs. Mallott
UFC veteran Neil Magny meets ‘Proper’ Mike Mallott on the main card of UFC 297. Magny attempts to bounce back from a loss to Ian Garry with a win over a top prospect. Ontario’s Mallott looks to put on a show for his home crowd at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
Round 1:
Magny avoids multiple leg kicks from Mallott. Mallott goes up top with a combo and then gets in the clinch with Magny. They break. Mallott swings big, but misses. Malllott lands the leg kick. Magny misses on quite a few strikes.
Magny dodges a headkick from Mallott and then clinches with the Canadian. Mallott finds control of the clinch for a moment. Both men separate. Magny rushes in with a lengthy combo. Mallott eats a punch from Magny. Leg kicks rarely land for both men, but one does get through from Mallott at the end of the round.
CDS: 10-9 Mallott
Round 2:
Magny presses forward. Magny tries to find the teep kick to the body. A leg kick and a body kick land for Mallott. Mallott shoots for a successful takedown on Magny. It doesn’t take Magny does get back up to his feet. After some time spent on the feet, Mallott thinks it’s time for another takedown – which he gets.
Mallott controls on top, landing major ground and pound on Magny. The UFC veteran eats elbows from the bottom. Mallott gets more shots in before the round ends.
CDS: 10-9 Mallott
Round 3:
Magny stalks Mallott on the feet, but not for long as ‘Proper’ takes him down. Magny gets back up. Mallott doesn’t retreat and has Magny in the clinch. With a leg snatched, Mallott sends Magny back to the mat. Mallott works from top position.
Magny turns it around with a takedown of his own. Magny rains down punches from up above. Magny stays on Mallott like glue, continuing to chip away at the prospect. Shot after shot, Mallott is left to turn away from Magny. The referee stops the action with seconds left on the clock. Magny gets the comeback win.
