Kevin Lee has been ‘dying’ to get a fight lined up.

Health Update, Timeframe For Return

The lightweight star has been sidelined for a good portion of 2022 with a knee injury, following his last victory over Diego Sanchez in March. Fast forward to now, Lee is back on his feet and ready to fight once again, ideally in January.

“I’m just at the end of the recovery process,” Lee told Middle Easy. “So, I’ve been dying to fight for the last couple of months now. It bothered me for a few months but I’m back to full training, sparring, doing what I need to do. The knee’s all good.

“January sounds great. I’m expecting a son pretty soon, I’ve been keeping a son pretty soon. I’ve been keeping that under wraps a lot. We gonna get a fight soon, hopefully January. I don’t know how these negotiations are working. But yeah, January would be nice.”

Nate Diaz?

With a timeframe in mind for his return, ‘The Motown Phenom’ just needs an opponent to return against. Lee, who is currently signed to Eagle FC, says he was offered to fight a Russian fighter (who he couldn’t remember the name of). But, that fight wouldn’t go through.

One option for Lee at the moment is currently Nate Diaz, who is now a free agent after his long tenure with the UFC.

“Yeah, that’s been on the roster,” Lee said of a potential fight with Diaz. “I don’t know if it’s gonna be with Eagle [FC]. But yeah, we’ve had some talks between Nate’s people. That’s something definitely to keep in mind for the next couple months or however he is gonna do. I think he’s playing around with boxing. I’m not to the point where I’m looking to box just yet.”

Mike Perry & Eddie Alvarez

Of course, lining up a fight with the Stockton superstar has never really been easy for anyone. If the talks with team Diaz don’t go anywhere, Lee has two other ex-UFC stars on his hit-list… Mike Perry and Eddie Alvarez, who also just became a free agent.

“Yeah, I’ve thrown Eddie Alvarez out there. That fight definitely interests me.

“The other name we were throwing around was Mike Perry,” Lee added. “Mike Perry, we supposed have been fighting for the last three, four years now, it feels like. So, if we can ever finally make that one happen, it’s a few fights out there.”

With a trio of names thrown out on his own, Kevin Lee is upset that more fighters aren’t calling for a fight with him.

“I’m kind of disappointed that more guys aren’t kind of calling for me. If I was a young guy that was like 24, 25, I only had a few fights and nobody really knew my name, Kevin Lee would’ve been the one I’m calling for every other weekend. I want that fight and it seems like nobody’s really asking for it. I don’t know if that’s cause they know what’s gonna happen. Try your luck, you know? What the f*ck you get into the sport for if you’re not gonna try?
