On December 16, Garry had a highly anticipated bout scheduled as part of the UFC 296 main card. However, the UFC welterweight faced a setback when he had to pull out of the fight against Vicente Luque due to a bout of pneumonia.

Ian Garry has faced criticism from the MMA community over the past month because of negative comments about his wife, Layla Machado Garry. Fans initiated most of the online harassment, with UFC middleweight Sean Strickland also contributing.

Garry reacted to Strickland’s remarks by threatening legal action against him.

In a recent episode of the Michael Bisping podcast, Laura Sanko discussed the Sean Strickland and Ian Garry issue in detail.  Sanko believes Strickland did cross the line with his comments and says families and wives should be off-limits for trash talk.

“He walked right into that. I watched his video with Theo Von and I commended him for it, I thought it was incredibly moving, I thought it was honest, I thought it was open. I think he will help a lot of people by being as vulnerable as he was, especially being known for a guy who wouldn’t do that,” Sanko said on Believe You Me. “On one hand, I’m giving Sean all the flowers in the world, but you can’t say attacking women is off limits and then call this woman a pedophile, which she clearly is not. She is not a pedophile. You literally said you can’t attack wives but you called his wife something horrendous and did it more than once. I applaud Ian for saying something. To be honest with you, I just wish we would all stop. I’m not some prude that thinks like I realize what game we’re in right, I actually prefer guys have physical fights than do this shit if I’m being honest.

“Because that way the family doesn’t get dragged into it and that way there’s not statements and altered photographs that live on the internet for years and years and years for your kids to have to Google. You know when they get of age that’s the stuff that really bothers me is like the the fact that things that are said now are permanent. If you going to get in a fight with each other go for it like I actually like the fact that he fought dricus and I like how dricus handled the whole situation. It’s just I’m so sick of how the way that people talk sh*t now in the game has changed and I think you know you’ve got people out there saying there is no line. Well there is a line because you don’t see these guys using racial slurs they would never because they know better right it’s territory we it’s a line we do not cross. There is a line it’s just it keeps it keeps moving and I think we need to move it back where we don’t talk about wives we don’t talk about kids”

It does seem most MMA fans would agree with Sanko that families should be off-limits for trash talk, but Sean Strickland continues to blast Ian Machado Garry’s wife.

Michael Bisping says Ian Machado Garry should fight Sean Strickland

With Sean Strickland being one of the many fighters who have taken shots at Ian Machado Garry’s wife, Michael Bisping says the Irishman should be calling him out.

Garry did put out a hit list that features Colby Covington and Strickland, which makes sense to Bisping. But, Bisping believes the Strickland fight is the one to make for all parties involved.

“Geoff Neal is already lined up, Colby Covington is on the table because he has been talking a lot of shit as well, of course, he just fought for the belt. That makes all the sense in the world, Sean Strickland is the fight he should be calling for. There was that stuff about his family and his wife, and there were threats of lawsuits, that is not how you handle that,” Bisping said.

“A perfect world was he beat Vicente Luque, what am I 7-0 in the UFC, I’m in line for a title shot, but I don’t want Leon Edwards, I’m moving up to middleweight and I want that piece of shit Sean Strickland because he has been talking shit about my wife because we have a score to settle,” Bisping added.

Before a possible Ian Machado Garry vs. Sean Strickland fight can happen, the middleweight champ will need to beat Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297.
