- Dricus du Plessis wants to make a statement by finishing Israel Adesanya at UFC 305
- “Stillknocks” is calling for a Sean Strickland vs. Robert Whittaker title eliminator fight
- The middleweight champ is not planning to take on Alex Pereira
Dricus du Plessis promises a finish against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 and shared his honest thoughts on Robert Whittaker, Sean Strickland and Alex Pereira.
Going for the finish
Speaking to Submission Radio, “Stillknocks” insisted that while he is satisfied with his decision wins in the past, his upcoming title fight with Izzy will end in a “spectacular” finish.
“At the end of the day, I’m coming to finish,” Du Plessis vowed. “I didn’t get a finish in my last fight, I only had two decisions in my career and that’s more than enough. Both decisions were incredible wars so I’m happy with that but I’m coming to finish. I’m coming to prove a point and I’m going to do it in in spectacular fashion.”
Vouching for Whittaker vs. Strickland for No. 1 contender
When asked about who he wants to rematch between title fight candidates Strickland and Whittaker, Du Plessis admitted that he’d like to give the fans what they want and that’s a showdown with “Tarzan.” However, the reigning champ prefers Strickland and Whittaker to fight for the title shot.
“In terms of what the people want to see, people want to see me and Strickland do the rematch. I mean they make the most noise, the Strickland fans I guess. But you know either one of them, at the end of the day, I’m here to fight the best guys, I’m here to fight the biggest fights, the fights that the fans want to see,” Du Plessis said.
“In my opinion, how I see this playing out, you cannot not do the Whittaker versus Strickland fight. I think that’s the fight that needs to happen… I think the UFC is going to make Whitaker and Strickland and ultimately that’s going to determine who’s the number one contender… with [Khamzat Chimaev] being out of the run for now, I think Whittaker vs. Strickland for number one contender fight is the next one,” he continued.
Alex isn’t on the list
Du Plessis also confided that he has been a massive Pereira fan. He acknowledged that a fight with “Poatan” would be big but as of now, the Brazilian is not on his list.
“Scary dude, scary dude and you know looking at him at right now, where I’m at in my career, it’s not a concern for me. Yes I keep an eye on every division but you know right now my focus is [middleweight],” Du Plessis commented.
Du Plessis will hope to defend his middleweight title against Adesanya at UFC 305. Leading up to the fight, the animosity between the two surfaced during their first faceoff which only proves that it would be an all-out grudge match.
