Khamzat Chimaev says the UFC president would go to jail if he made Covington vs. Chimaev.
Chimaev is only three days away from his most significant challenge at UFC 273. He faces Gilbert Burns in the ‘people’s main event.’ With a win over the Brazilian, Chimaev jumps all the way up to the No. 2 welterweight and possibly next for the belt.
With the welterweight champion most likely fighting Leon Edwards in July, it will leave Chimaev out of action; however, there is one top contender without a fight, which makes a whole lot of sense: Colby Covington.
Colby and Cops
At UFC 273 media day, Chimaev was asked about a potential fight with Covington.
“I will be happy if they do that,” Chimaev told reporters. “I don’t think that guy wants to fight me, he gonna go to the cops, call the cops.
“Dana White will be in jail if they make that fight. He talks too much in the media, then when he sees face-to-face, then he goes to the cops. If I’m honest, UFC has to kick him out. He’s a bitch.”
Chimaev is referencing cops being called whenever Covington is in a physical confrontation. Two examples are Fabricio Werdum in 2017 while they were in Australia and, most recently, Jorge Masvidal sucker punching him in Miami.
Nevertheless, a fight between Chimaev and Covington makes a lot of sense. IF he gets by Gilbert Burns on Saturday at UFC 273. Stay tuned MiddleEasy has you covered.
