- Kenny Florian explained why weight cutting is very crucial for Kayla Harrison’s upcoming UFC debut
- “KenFlo” believes the former PFL champ could become a UFC star with a win over Holly Holm
Kenny Florian believes Kayla Harrison’s success in the UFC will all depend on how her weight cut for her UFC 300 clash with Holly Holm would play out.
Kayla needs to do it right
Speaking on Anik and Florian podcast, Florian said she never doubts what Harrison could do as a fighter. However, the former PFL champ should really have to be able to maintain her form and strength while cutting weight from 155 to 135 because it would dictate what lies ahead of her in the UFC.
“I don’t think it’s going to be an easy weight cut but I would imagine if Kayla does everything like the way she has done in a very professional manner that she has the right people around her, that they believe that she’s going to be able to do it and do it well and that’s the key man, you know for me, I think it all comes down to how well that weight cut goes. If the weight cut goes well and she’s able to use that as a positive test run, I think she’ll be extremely successful and ultimately be a champion in that division,” Florian assessed.
Holly is a challenge
Florian also acknowledged the fact that Harrison’s UFC debut opponent is no walk in the park. According to “KenFlo,” Holm has always been a dangerous fighter for anybody but a win over “The Preacher’s Daughter” would surely catapult Harrison to UFC stardom.
“Holly is never going to be an easy fight for anybody but you know Kayla, when she gets her hands on you, she’s a completely different type of woman herself you know she is as strong as they come and she’s just so muscular so you know, assuming she does it correctly I think she’ll be fine but Holly’s gonna be a challenge man,” Florian said.
“I think if she goes out there and gets an impressive win over someone like Holly, I think people are going to start to really pay attention and if UFC will kind of confirm what I think is a true star in that division in Kayla Harrison,” he continued.
Some in the UFC are already doubting Harrison’s ability to cut weight considering the majority of her fights took place at lightweight. Despite that notion, Holm still believes that she is the underdog in the equation.
