Kayla Harrison opened up about how difficult it was to make weight for UFC 300.

Weight-cutting was easier said than done

Speaking to TNT Sports after her submission win over Holly Holm at UFC 300, an enthusiastic Harrison didn’t shy away from revealing her struggles with weight-cutting heading into her UFC debut. According to the former PFL champ, the whole process wasn’t easy but getting rid of “the last pound” before the official weigh-ins was the toughest one.

“Different parts of it were harder than others,” Harrison said. “Like, the last pound, you know, I will say that. The last pound, the last morning, was really difficult. The initial cut… The 12 weeks of dieting wasn’t great, but I could handle it. The Thursday of cutting weight wasn’t too bad. But the last pound on Friday morning, that was pretty tough.”

“I’ve gotta tell you guys the truth… I did not know if I could make 135 pounds or not… I prayed about it. This was what I wanted, I want to become UFC champion, and I decided to have faith and trust my god, trust my team, trust myself, and go out on a limb here. It paid off. I’m really grateful,” she added.

Kayla wants the title first

As it stands, many are now waiting for Harrison’s next move. At this point, Kayla is laser-focused on competing for the UFC women’s bantamweight title, which is also the reason why she snubbed Amanda Nunes is her call for a title shot at UFC 300.

It is yet to be known who Raquel Pennington will face next as her new title challenger. However, “Rocky” previously said she wouldn’t like Harrison to leapfrog other top contenders and get a title shot after her UFC debut win.

As for Harrison, she is only concerned about winning the title and after that, she would be down to face anybody.
