Jose Aldo says he’s going to ‘seriously injure’ Conor McGregor, which is how you hype a fight

Is it a self-fulfilling prophecy that the biggest stars that are fighting for the unification of the featherweight strap are also talking the best trash? Everyone should be saying they’ll be soon seriously injuring their opponent. That’s the business. Yes, Martial Arts are in the title but as Chael Sonnen said all those years ago, this is the fight business, and to get business you have to get in a fight. In fights, you hurt people. Even better if you actually don’t like the person and you seriously injure them. You get hype, you get cred and everyone gets paid. This is the way it should be.

I know, I know. Respect is a big deal in the martial arts, but those people are also showing respect because they’re sparring in a gym. And respect is definitely a big part of it. But not at the levels of Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor. Respect doesn’t put your next meal on the table. Respect doesn’t get you a new designer suit.

Check out what Jose said to Sherdog:

“After we saw his fight against Chad, we could see that everything was working out as planned and that we would win the fight. I mean, we will win the fight,” Aldo said at the conference (via Sherdog). “Be sure that I’ll put my hands on him like I’ve never put my hands on any other opponent.

“I can just see the win ahead of me, and I’m going after it. I’m not going to lose focus. Of course, I’m going to leave him seriously injured and bring my belt back.”
