As soon as I saw MMAFighting.com break the news that Gilbert Melendez would be defending his title against Jorge Masvidal, I texted Juan Carlos Faraldo, Masvidal’s strength and conditioning coach and Miami Hustle co star to express my excitement over this FOTY candidate. Naturally, Juan was excited. Very excited. Who wouldn’t be thrilled at this match up? But as much as I love Juan and the whole crew down there in Florida, I think he has a gambling problem. The dude kept on asking me to make a ‘friendly bet’ on the bout. That evidence plus the rampant bet making in Miami Hustle reinforce my feelings. Listen Juan, I know better than to make ‘friendly’ bets with people who have an intimate knowledge of machetes and strength and conditioning. Scott Coker mentioned somewhere that there will probably only be one more Strikeforce event in 2011 past the September 10th show, so expect this electric bout to go down sometime during the holiday season.
