The Last of Remastered was released recently, and I’m on the fence about buying it. I tired to get into the game when it was originally released on PS3, and I couldn’t. I know this is an unpopular opinion that will probably have people throwing copies of Juno on DVD at their computer screens, while hoping that somehow it hits me for my stance that their candidate for GOAT video game was okay. Which is weird, because I didn’t say it was bad, I just said I thought it was okay. Which in a way is almost worse to hardcore fans. Similarly, I managed to incur the wrath of an entire film department in college by referring to Citizen Kane as “alright.” The point that I’m getting at is that sometimes hype can really take the excitement out of things.
Enter – the post UFC 178 media day world. It’s not as safe as it once was. We’ve learned that there is darkness in the world, and in our efforts to combat this ever lurking threat have we gone too far? Unwarranted wire taps, stringent security procedures at airports, a collective resorting to preparing for the worst case scenarios. The world is no longer a beautiful place. The scuffle at the 178 media day between Jones and Cormier may have been the hype jumping the shark. Speaking of sharks, don’t watch Shark Week next week, unless you like being spoon fed misinformation and fear bait designed to increase ratings.
Of course, when Jon Jones appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night he was going to be asked about the Happening at the UFC 178 media day, and he had no problem discussing it in all of its splendor, along with shedding some light on why he and Cormier share such a disdain towards one another.
