There were two ‘fans’ in the stands of the United Center on Saturday night who would go ‘Wooooo!’ to each remotely attractive female that would pass the aisle next to them. Eventually, after they ‘wooed’ a particular woman more than a few times as she went to and fro wherever she was to and fro-ing, she stopped and asked what exactly it was they were wooing at. Their response? To hold up their beers and ‘woo’ even louder. They wooed so loud they closed their eyes as they did it and the ‘ooo’ sound kind of did a rolling R. Then they burst out laughing maniacally, as if this was some sort of grand statement of their cleverness.
Yes, they were dressed head-to-toe in the skull and crossbones MMA gear so many of us loathe, and yes, they were booing grappling; talking smack about Hioki’s unbelievable bottom game. It was rough to witness, very rough. And those certain fans are one of the worst aspects about MMA, but those types of fans are into every sport up to and including 3rd grade level intramural flag football. It is what it is. Dealing with it is almost like this dog trying to navigate a stick through a fence – downright frustrating. So let’s come together in solidarity and allow James Thompson to guide us through a subject that has no doubt come up countless times in the comment section.
