Jalin Turner reflected on his controversial first-round knockout win over Bobby Green at UFC Austin and talked about the referee’s seemingly delayed stoppage.

It’s business after all

Speaking to the media in his post-fight presser, “The Tarantula” did not shy away from admitting he felt good and bad at the same time about his win. According to Turner, it’s nice to secure such a dominant victory but since he and Green are from the same place, it makes a bit “bittersweet.” Nevertheless, Turner understood that it’s all business after all.

“At the end of the day, it’s bittersweet because me and Bobby come from the same area,” Turner said. “We grew up in the same area and that’s what made it tough. But at the end of the day, it’s also business and you’ve got to see the business opportunities.”

“And I’m a businessman, an independent contractor, so I’ve got to go handle business when it’s attended to me. They put me in the position because they knew I’ve got the name now. I’ve got a little hype. I always go and put on a show. I’m a businessman. I handle what I have to do for the promotion. Look what happened.”

Maybe or maybe not

As for the backlash caused by referee Kerry Hatley, who is being accused of prolonging the fight despite seeing Green clearly beaten up, Turner alluded it could be true but what’s done is done. Moreover, “The Tarantula” gave the ref some benefit of the doubt and pointed out that perhaps, he also knew that Green is a tough fighter.

“The ref just ah, he just didn’t see. I don’t know, bro,” Turner commented. “I don’t know what to call it. He just waited until Bobby was out. Bobby is tough. Bobby is a really tough fighter. When I was punching him, he was defending them, and he was moving. He was still a bit coherent. I was like, ‘Dang.’ I was like, ‘Maybe this should be stopped. Maybe not.’ I’m not going to stop until you pull me off because it’s him or me. If he had gotten his bearings about him, he could’ve gotten back on top or something crazy. It is what it is. He was healthy. He was good. He was coherent afterward. We had good words, so I was happy he was in decent health. So it is what it is.”

Green has already addressed the issue and despite the painful defeat, “King” remains positive.

Turner’s win saw him getting back on the win column, having lost his last two fights. The win also opened up the door to a rematch with Dan Hooker, the man he replaced at UFC Austin. For Turner, the idea sounds good and he’s not gonna rule it out.
