UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is taking a trip down memory lane and looking back on the career of Jose Aldo.

There is not much that champion Israel Adesanya can’t do. He is the king of the middleweight division and he does a great job of breaking down fights on his YouTube channel. This week Adesanya was joined by his friend and UFC 278 fighter Tyson Pedro to talk about the long and successful career of Jose Aldo. The former featherweight champion will be taking on Merab Dvalishvili in a bantamweight title contention bout at UFC 278.

Israel Adesanya reminisces over the storied career of Jose Aldo

Adesanya and Pedro sat and chatted about their favorite Aldo moments. They spoke about some of the best fights of his career and about what made him so dominant back in his WEC and early UFC days.

“Jose Aldo, one of the greatest of all time, the king of Rio, WEC watching him do what he did as fast as it. is as efficient as he did, levels.” Adesanya said.

The two spoke about Aldo and how he was one of the best ever to throw low leg kicks. He would hurt his opponents so bad that they would take weeks to recover from all the leg kicks thrown in a fight. Adesanya and Pedro are hoping to see Aldo return to this style of fighting that has become more commonly used today.

Aldo will be making his 20th walk to the Octagon on Saturday night and although he might not be unstoppable as he had seemed early in his career, Adesanya is picking the former champion for old time’s sake.

” I want Aldo to win, I want Aldo to win but my head should say Merab, but my heart, I’m just reminiscing now, and I’m like, f–k it, this guy’s a G, man,” Adesanya said.

Aldo has won his last three since making the move down to bantamweight over very tough opponents. Coming into this fight, Aldo is ranked third in the division and with a win could be setting himself up for a shot at the belt next. Champion Aljamain Sterling will be taking on TJ Dillashaw in October and with that fight playing out, the path could be laid out for Aldo to finally see gold around his waist again.
