Israel Adesanya Continues Beef With Jon Jones
Israel Adesanya may be primed for a bout with Robert Whitaker, later this year. Despite this, he is continuing to beef with Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones.
Adesanya is the UFC’s Interim Middlweight Champion, and is trying to unify his belt this fall. However, this has not stopped him from going back and forth with Jones. Both fighters have expressed interest in a fight down the line, and slewed their fair share of insults. Additionally, Jones went as far as to offer to train Whitaker, for the Adesanya fight.
Most recently, Adesanya spoke to BT Sport about this rivalry with Jones. Adesanya was quick to remind everyone who started this beef, while expressing interesting in moving up in weight.
“He’s the one that told TMZ, ‘Oh, I’d like to fight Israel Adesanya.’ And then I remember, I posted receipts on my Instagram saying two weeks ago, I was texting my coach about this. trust me, Jon is a guy that…he is supposedly the best of the best right now. He’s at the top of the game, And I’m Player 1, and this is the game I want to play. So when I clock that game, I’ll turn it off. So in time.
Every champion does it. When you dominate your division, what do they do? In boxing, kickboxing, you move up in weight. He hasn’t even done that yet. He’s all, ‘Oh, I don’t want to fight DC, because I don’t want to fight him at heavyweight. He’s gotta come down.’ What a bitch.”
The fight between Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones seems like an inevitability. However, we definitely have to see Adesanya get past Whitaker first.
