Ian Garry opened up about how the fans’ reaction to his UFC 296 withdrawal affected him.

The real ones were there in Vegas

Taking his thoughts to Instagram, “Future” said he realized that those who reacted negatively online were fake fans and those who showed up in Las Vegas to see him were the ones who really supported him.

Garry was pulled out from UFC 296 due to pneumonia and his bout with Geoff Neal was ultimately scrapped. The fight has now been rescheduled for UFC 298 in February 17.

“Fight week didn’t go as planned. Influenza developed into pneumonia as I dropped weight and for the first time in my career I was pulled by the UFC Doctor. Flying home I met so many fans who flew out specifically to see me. F*ck. This is not how I wanted to meet you. I wanted to put on a show more than anything. Thank you for all your kind words, wonderful messages and to everyone who was there for me. You might read hateful comments online but I’ve discovered they aren’t real. In real life you book flights, hotels, you drive miles, and you show up, in Vegas. I appreciate the hell out everyone and I promise I’ll make it up to you all in February,” Garry wrote.

Still undefeated

Garry may have been derailed by sickness but his pro MMA record remains flawless. As it stands, “Future” has an unbeaten 13-0 record and will hope to improve it at UFC 298.

Before being booked for UFC 298, Garry dominated Neil Magny en route to a decisive decision win at UFC 292. He is now the No. 10 UFC welterweight contender.
