Prior to this bout, Shinya Aoki saw his fight against Gilbert Melendez as Japan vs. America and if Japan lost, it would be an American colony. Well it looks like we all have a new time share off the coast of Tokyo. The Compustrike numbers (Gilbert landed 132 strikes, Aoki landed 18) makes this fight look unbelievably one-sided because, well…it was unbelievably one-sided.
Look, we all love our rainbow color tights but very few items on this earth are victorious when compared to a Cesar Gracie mean mug. In a five-round display of American stand-up, California ground and pound and weird puffy hair brilliance, Gilbert Melendez retains the Strikeforce lightweight title.
Don’t be surprised if Dream announces Gilbert Melendez vs. Shinya Aoki II going down in Japan by the end of the year. Congrats to Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and it’s complete obliteration of MMA belts.
