Dammit Din. Shine Fights could have paid me for not fighting. Hell, they could have paid my aunt to not fight Ricardo Mayorga. She would have been as good if not better at not fighting than Din Thomas. We first told you about Din Thomas fighting ex-champion (and apparently property of Don King), Ricardo Mayorga back in November of 2009. Back then, people were seriously considering Brett Rogers a threat to Fedor, everyone was still agitated about UFC 104’s Machida nod and we all had our rear-ends teased with a feather as SpikeTV pulled us through an entire season of TUF with the promise that Kimbo will return. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. More importantly, it was the time that Din Thomas thought that he would get a fat paycheck for propelling Shine Fights into notoriety by taking on Ricardo Mayorga in a ‘Boxing vs. MMA’ bout. We all know what happened. Fight was hyped, scheduled as plan and then Don King walked into a court with one million dollars in order to prevent the bout for going down on allegations that he still had Ricardo Mayorga under contract. Everything was canceled and even Shogun Rua was pissed off.
Din Thomas tweeted (twatted?) this week that he finally got his paycheck from Shine Fights despite the fact that he did not fight Ricardo Mayorga. Props to Din on the loot and I guess we will never know whether Ricardo really had the power to rock him with one karate chop. [Source]
