Dillon Danis speaks out about his interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

Dillon Danis is getting set for his return to combat sports after three years away. The grappling standout decided to take his talents to MMA back in 2018 and joined the roster at Bellator. After two fights under that banner, he was forced to take some time off to deal with injuries and has not returned to the cage since. Now he is set for his boxing debut and along the way is making headlines with his mouth, not his hands.

Danis has always been known as a troublemaker and smack-talker in the media and within the fight game. His claim to fame was his association with Conor McGregor and it seems he has picked up some of the McGregor trash talk along the way. Now he is aiming it at MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

To promote his upcoming boxing match with YouTuber KSI happening on Jan. 14 in London, Danis was a guest on The MMA Hour with Helwani. These two have had some bad blood in the past but this interview was meant to rectify that. It did not and instead was filled with trash talk and insults. Danis spoke about this interview while on Chael Sonnen’s YouTube channel

“Ariel’s, I don’t know, he’s weird. He’s very emotional, very sensitive,” Danis said. “He can give it out but he can’t take it which is one of the worst things you could be in this world. You know when you’re in high school or anywhere really, whenever you’re in a friend group no one really likes a guy that can talk shit to everybody but when he gets it back, he can’t take it, he goes home crying. It’s kind of how Ariel is. He’s a bully. He doesn’t take criticism well, but the interview did the best numbers that he’s gotten all year. Right now it’s his most viewed interview.”

The interview was a success and is one of the most viewed for Helwani for the entire year. Danis boasted about this fact while sending one last parting shot Helwani’s way.

“I was the adult there. I feel like he was just coming off as you know, very hostile and very agitated. He’s weird to gauge he’s a very weird kind of guy. Like I can’t tell… maybe he’s not used to getting criticism to his face,” he said. “Even when I walked out the studio all his guys are like popping like, oh, this is great, the best numbers we’ve done on the live and he was just like, super upset. I don’t know. I heard he was on like estrogen. So like, maybe he’s on estrogen replacement therapy or something. He’s very emotional.”

In addition to raising Helwani’s viewership, Danis also claimed that he was making more money than most UFC fighters with his upcoming boxing endeavor. He says that he plans to return to Bellator in the future and has intentions to continue his MMA career while continuing to box.
