- “Mighty Mouse” compared “Chaos” to Dillon Danis when he faced Logan Paul
Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson joined the list of MMA personalities who have criticized Colby Covington’s performance against Leon Edwards at UFC 296.
The ‘Chaos’ didn’t show up
Speaking on his YouTube channel, “Mighty Mouse” concluded that Covington did not fight the way he usually does. He likened Covington to Dillon Danis, who relentlessly trolled Logan Paul but failed to back it up during the fight.
“Colby Covington is a great character who sells fight but what makes Colby Covington so good and what I said he needed to do, he did not do. His performance almost equated to Dillon Danis’ performance against Logan Paul. What do I mean by that? Colby Covington has outwrestled Jorge Masvidal, he’s taken the fight to all of his opponents. This is the first time we’ve never seen Colby Covington take the fight to his opponent. Why? Why was he so worried about Leon?,” Johnson commented.
“Now, Leon Edwards is an amazing striker. He is a pinpoint sniper when it comes to his fights. But what makes the difference with Colby Covington is he does not care, he is relentless. That’s why they call him Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington. And he was not ‘Chaos,’ he was almost like a soft white bunny rabbit,” he added.
Maybe Leon is just too good
Prior to UFC 296, Covington last fought in March last year. Johnson acknowledged that ring rust might have taken its toll on “Chaos” but he also pointed out that perhaps, Edwards was just too good for Colby that night.
“I’m a big fan of Colby Covington because I love how he has this relentless pace, he is 35, he did take some time off so that could have probably played a factor in there or what probably played a factor is that he came up against a high-level striker like Leon Edwards,” Johnson assessed.
“Leon Edwards is very good about picking his shots he also destroyed Colby Covington’s leg,” he continued.
Edwards has now defended his welterweight title twice and is aiming to break Georges St-Pierre’s all-time record in title defenses. As for Covington, he vowed to come back stronger and is now targeting Stephen Thompson.
