Colby Covington is focusing on what could be next for him, having lost to Leon Edwards at UFC 296. For “Chaos,” a showdown with Stephen Thompson sounds perfect.

On to the next

Speaking to the media in his UFC 296 post-fight presser, Covington held his head high and said he is not gonna be devastated by his defeat. Instead, he will now set his sights on “Wonderboy.”

“I’m not going to worry about the past. I’m going to focus on what’s next,” Covington said. “There’s a guy that’s been talking a lot of sh*t to me in the media,” “He’s always talking [expletive], throwing shade, so I’d love to see him say it to my face.”

“I’d love to see him sometime next year and you know we’ve been at the top of the division for the longest,” he added. “We’re two guys that have never fought that have been at the top of the division for years so you know I think that’s the fight that makes the most logical sense next.”

Colby will work on a few things

Covington confidently said nothing about Edwards surprised him. In fact, it didn’t even feel like he was in a real fight. For “Chaos,” he won Rounds 3 to 5 but he didn’t perform at his best in the first two.

“I need to get my timing back and I will go back to work,” Covington shared. “I know what I need to work on. I held back a lot in that fight. I don’t even feel like I was in a fight you know it feels like I just was in a f**king practice round so you know I’m a lot better than that and I’m still 35 years young and my best is yet to come.”

“He didn’t surprise me at all,” he added. “I thought I had rounds three, four and five. Started out a little slow in the first two rounds but those rounds still felt like tossup rounds but you know he’s the champion so I know I had to go out there and take it from him.”

No remorse

At the UFC 296 press con, Covington made an insensitive comment about Edwards’ deceased father who got murdered when he was 13 years old. Despite the fight being over, “Chaos” insists that he is not taking back anything he said as he doesn’t feel for a “criminal.”

“Why would I have sympathy for a sex trafficker, someone who’s impacted and hurt a lot of people’s lives?,” Covington pointed out. “The truth always stings the worst in the world. So, no, I don’t feel bad about that at all. Let’s talk about all the victims that he left behind that are surviving of the trauma and the turmoil that he put these people’s lives through. So I don’t feel bad at all why would I feel bad for a criminal.”

Covington has now gone winless in all of his three title fights. Nevertheless, “Chaos” has yet to show any signs of slowing down and giving up on his goal to become the welterweight champion.
