Daniel Cormier Claims Michael Chandler Is ‘Desperate’ For Conor McGregor Fight, Doesn’t Think ‘Mixed Martial Arts Soap Opera’ Will Happen

Daniel Cormier thinks Michael Chandler is desperate to secure a fight against Conor McGregor after committing his time and effort.

Daniel Cormier compared the ongoing situation with Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor to a soap opera.

Earlier this year, The Ultimate Fighter Season 31 was coached by Chandler and McGregor, who were expected to fight in late 2023. Unfortunately, ‘The Notorious’ failed to rejoin the USADA drug-testing pool in time, pushing his highly-anticipated Octagon return to 2024.

Chandler’s last fight was a third-round submission loss against Dustin Poirier in November 2022. Therefore, ‘Iron’ has waited over a year to potentially fight McGregor, with an official date still not confirmed.

Despite Chandler’s commitment to the matchup, McGregor has continued playing mind games with the former Bellator lightweight champion. The Dublin native has even teased the possibility of booking a fight against a different opponent.

During a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Daniel Cormier discussed several hot topics, including the Chandler-McGregor situation. ‘DC’ had this to say about ‘Iron’ potentially being desperate to secure the massive payday against the former two-division UFC champion:

“This Michael Chandler-Conor McGregor situation is a mixed martial arts soap opera. So, now, Mike has been constantly chasing Conor. It is to the point now where, I don’t like saying this because Chandler is one of my buddies, but it’s almost desperate to fight Conor McGregor. At every single step, he has agreed to, he has said ok, he has made concessions.”

Cormier continued:

“He has almost agreed and done anything he possibly can to ensure that fight still happens. McGregor, for his part, just keeps playing him to the left. That’s what we call that in Louisiana, play him to the left like when a girl doesn’t like you.”

Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler will materialize

On December 23, Conor McGregor attended the Day of Reckoning boxing event in Saudi Arabia. While watching the fights, ‘The Notorious’ was interviewed ringside and voiced his frustration toward the UFC not booking him for his Octagon return (shown above).

During the previously mentioned YouTube video, Daniel Cormier had this to say about McGregor’s comments and how they relate to a potential fight against Michael Chandler:

“Conor McGregor is at a boxing fight the other day, he’s mad because he said he’s been nipping at the butt asking [for a fight]. So, where’s the disconnect? If Conor has been asking, and Michael Chandler is more than willing, where’s the disconnect? I’m starting to think honestly this fight ain’t gonna happen. I don’t feel like it’s gonna happen.”

Although nothing has been confirmed, Conor McGregor is connected to rumors about a main event fight on April 13 for the historic UFC 300. For now, the MMA community must wait while McGregor’s must-see Octagon return is made official.
