UFC president Dana White reiterated that Jon Jones will take on Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title fight and confirmed that Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler has already exceeded $20 million gate sales.
Jon is just asking
Speaking to the media in his post UFC St. Louis presser, the UFC boss was quizzed to lift the lid on Jones’ next fight. This was in line with “Bones” seemingly preferring Alex Pereira over Tom Aspinall as his next challenger.
According to White, Jones just wanted to see which fighter draws the best interest from the fans but at the end of the day, he would face Miocic.
“Yeah, it’s Stipe. I think Jon’s just asking, ‘Who do you like? What do you think?’ Kind of just feeling it out, seeing what people think. But he knows he’s fighting Stipe,” White said.
Conor’s impact is already felt
Apart from Jones’ next title defense, the UFC is also excited about McGregor’s official return at UFC 303 against Chandler. When asked about his thoughts on people doubting the UFC’s ability to reach the region of $20 million in ticket sales, the UFC boss proudly disclosed that UFC 303‘s gate sales has already generated more than $20 million, setting a new record for the company.
“Yeah, it’s already way over 20 million,” White told reporters.
Jones vs. Miocic still has no official date and location yet but McGregor vs. Chandler will headline UFC 303 on June 29th at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Notorious” has recently become a part-owner of BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) but he is confident about making successful UFC return as well. As for “Bones,” it is yet to be determine what lies ahead of his reign as the heavyweight champion with Pereira also interested in fighting him.
