Cris Cyborg Wants Immediate Nunes Rematch But Dana White Is Noncommittal

Cris Cyborg Wants To Run It Back To Reclaim Her Title Against Amanda Nunes But Dana White Shoots It Down

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino’s 13-year unbeaten run ended this past Saturday (Dec. 29, 2018) after she was knocked out by Bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in 51 seconds into the first round at UFC 232 PPV event from inside The Forum in Inglewood, California.

MMA’s Greatest Female Fighter Cyborg had a lengthy run without any defeat asks for an immediate rematch with Amanda Nunes at UFC 232 post-fight presser.

“Of course. I can rematch [Nunes] any time Dana White wants to put it together. I love fighting, and this has put more fire in my heart to continue fighting. Of course, of course, and Jorina Baars I want to rematch, too. I always say this,” she said via MMA Fighting.

“When I stop fighting MMA, I want to go to Muay Thai and rematch her. I never, when I go step in the cage, say I want to prove something. I like to improve. I like to get better and continue training. And after this fight, for sure, I’m going to train harder.”

Well UFC head honcho Dana White is noncommital about Cyborg vs. Nunes immediate rematch as he believes ‘Lioness’ victory over Justino was pretty convincing.

“I don’t think you do. I mean, it was a pretty convincing win.… I gotta get back in the lab and figure it out [what’s next for Cyborg], but we’ll come up with something for her,” he said after the fight.

Considering the fact of Cyborg’s dominant reign, no doubt Nunes rematch makes sense. White’s comments are off the mark as the promotion has granted the former champions immediate rematches after being starched in short order.

As a prime example here is when Rose Namajunas dismantled Joanna Jedrzejczyk in little over three minutes to score the strawweight title at UFC 217 back in 2017 and only after five months later ‘JJ’ got a rematch at UFC 223. To remind you Jedrzejczyk defended her title five straight times.

Another example here is when Chris Weidman knocked out Anderson Silva at UFC 162 back in July 2013 to scored the middleweight title in one of the biggest upsets in UFC history. However, considering Silva’s status as one of the greatest of all time White gave ‘The Spider’ an immediate rematch five months later at UFC 168.

Also, one thing to note here is Cyborg has left with one fight on her contract following UFC 232 loss, so if UFC didn’t up their game to keep her in the company, then don’t be surprised if she looks for other promotions for an opportunity.
