  • Chael Sonnen wants Michael Chandler vs. Max Holloway BMF title fight if Conor McGregor withdraws from UFC 303
  • “The Bad Guy” remains optimistic about McGregor vs. Chandler

Chael Sonnen is not convinced that Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler would be cancelled but if it does, he would like to see Chandler face Max Holloway for the BMF title.

Chael sees no other way but the BMF

Speaking on the Good Guy/Bad Guy show, Sonnen stated that regardless of what is going on with UFC 303, “Notorious” will never pull out due to personal decision. However, if an injury or other sudden external factor would force McGregor to withdraw, “The Bad Guy” wants the UFC to move on and book Chandler against Holloway for a BMF title fight.

“One of Connor’s codes is the show must go on… I happen to be with Conor McGregor when Jose Aldo pulled out and Chad Mendes got stuck in, we’re on the campus of ESPN doing some media. I was there when Connor took the call and couldn’t have possibly cared any less of the opponent change because the show must go on and I just don’t believe that a month in advance, whether it’s illness or injury or any other excuse, that Conor is gonna be the one to pull. It would change the code that he must, as a human being, fiercely adhere to,” Sonnen explained.

“But, I will tell you this, there will be no postponement of this fight,” he pointed out. “They either fight on the 29th, or we move on. Oh, and by the way, the show is still gonna happen. I believe Conor is gonna be opposite Michael Chandler, I’m very confident in telling you that. However, if he’s not, Michael Chandler vs Max Holloway for the BMF is the fight to book.”

No official changes on McGregor vs. Chandler fight yet

The drama started when the scheduled UFC 303 press conference in Dublin, Ireland got postponed for no specific reason. It was later reported that McGregor has cut ties with all his media obligations with the company.

In a statement, “Notorious” said “a series of obstacles outside of our control” prompted the abrupt postponement. As it stands, the UFC has yet to announce any changes on the McGregor vs. Chandler bout.
