- Chael Sonnen accused Conor McGregor of being in rehab for alcohol abuse
- “Notorious” reassured his fans that he is making another epic UFC return
Chael Sonnen theorized that Conor McGregor blamed an injury for his UFC 303 exit but the truth is he’s now in rehab for substance abuse issues.
A bold speculation from Chael
Speaking on his Good Guy / Bad Guy show with Daniel Cormier, Sonnen came up with a bold speculation that “Notorious” wasn’t forced to pull out from UFC 303 due to injury but because of “substance abuse,” particularly alcohol. “The Bad Guy” even claimed that McGregor is now in rehab.
“I’m glad that we’re done talking about this but I wanna mention something else to you on a completely separate topic. What incredible irony that both sides have these massive interests in alcohol, and one side is in the middle of rehab for substance abuse, including alcohol… Two guys are pushing alcohol, totally unrelated story. And then another guy is in rehab for alcohol and other substances. I’m just saying, that’s a tough story to tell. Not for nothing, that gets to be a little bit tough,” Sonnen said.

Conor promised another epic return
It’s no surprise that people are suggesting different angles and stories about the UFC superstar’s cancelled fight. However, McGregor has remained firm and positive about his situation.
According to the former UFC two-division champ, it’s unfortunate to get injured ahead of his highly-anticipated return but he is now “in good spirits.” For now, McGregor is pleading for his fans’ undying support and trust as he prepares for his journey to another epic UFC return.
Very tough to be ruled out of my scheduled return bout. I picked up an injury prior to the press conference that required more time to heal than was available to me. The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly, but one made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC,… pic.twitter.com/ACNnbvr27p

McGregor has not fought since suffering a gruesome leg injury at UFC 264 in 2021. On the other hand, Chandler has yearned and patiently waited to finally get a chance to face “Notorious,” ending up being inactive for almost two years in the process.
As for Sonnen, he had just fought Anderson Silva in a boxing match that ended in a draw. He is now certain that a showdown with Jorge Masvidal inside the ring is next.
