Bubba Jenkins returned to the PFL Smart Cage on Friday night determined to punch his tickets to the 2023 PFL Championships this fall.

Standing in Jenkin’s way of that goal was Peruvian standout Jesus Pinedo who made waves earlier this year with a stunning first-round knockout against heavy favorite Brendan Loughnane. Was Pinedo able to knock off the No. 1 seed in the PFL Playoffs or did Jenkins move one step closer to cashing that million-dollar check?

Round 1

Jenkins comes out and quickly fires a heavy leg kick. Jenkins briefly slips but recovers and attempts to shoot for a takedown, but Pinedo fights it off easily. Jenkins again shoots, this time targeting an ankle, and uses it to push Pinedo against the Smart Cage. Jenkins continues to work for a single leg, but Pinedo uses the cage to stay upright. Jenkins remains committed to the takedown, switching to a double leg, but Pinedo is able to break free with a knee.

Pinedo picks up the pace and starts to pressure Jenkins. Pinedo drops Jenkins with a right and Jenkins immediately shoots for a takedown to try and recover. Pinedo stuffs the takedown and lays into Jenkins’ body with some hammer fists. Pinedo moves back to his feet, but Jenkins is able to work him back down to the ground. Pinedo attempts to post off his right arm and turn his hips to escape. Jenkins is unable to keep Pinedo on the mat and Jenkins is already looking a little tired.

Pinedo picks up the pace and unleashes a flurry of strikes with less than a minute to go. Pinedo lands a big left hand that drops Jenkins. Pinedo attempts to go for the kill, but Jenkins is able to wrestle and survive through the remainder of the opening round.

Round 2

Jenkins comes out for round two looking to land early as Pinedo responds with a high kick that is blocked by Jenkins. Jab lands clean for Jenkins as Pinedo continues moving forward and cutting off Jenkins. Pinedo swings away, landing more than he’s missing and putting Jenkins on his bicycle. Jenkins is against the fence and clings onto Pinedo to stop the onslaught.

Pinedo ends up taking Jenkins’ back briefly looking for a choke, but it turns out to be a mistake as Jenkins easily reverses and gets into top position. Pinedo closes his guard as both fighters appear content to catch their breath for a few months.

With no action, the referee stands both fighters up. Jenkins proceeds to pump the jab, but Pinedo lands another big left and unloads another flurry of strikes. Jenkins drops down attempting to wrestle once again, but he has no strength length. Pinedo unloads some ground and pound strikes until the referee has seen enough and calls for the stopping in the final seconds of the second round.

Official Result: Jesus Pinedo def. Bubba Jenkins via TKO (strikes) at 4:40 of Round 2.
