Bryce Mitchell released a statement following his devastating knockout loss against Josh Emmett.

On Saturday night, Bryce Mitchell stepped up on short notice to face Josh Emmett as the opening bout on the UFC 296 pay-per-view main card. Mitchell hoped to continue building momentum after defeating Dan Ige in September, but instead, he took a significant step back in his journey to becoming a UFC champion.

Nearly two minutes into round one, Emmett landed a massive right hand and left Mitchell unconscious. Shortly after, ‘Thug Nasty’ started convulsing as fans in the arena and watching at home became worried about his health status.

Earlier today, Mitchell shared a video on Instagram letting everyone know he is okay. The Arkansas native had this to say about what happened:

“My first thoughts were that was an incredibly hard knockout. I’m really lucky I didn’t get hurt any worse because my head’s not hurting. I feel just fine. I’m right back to work…I wanted to let y’all know I’m so happy with Josh Emmett because right after he knocked me out, he could have followed up with the hammer fists, and it probably would’ve killed me. He didn’t even follow up with anything. He was just happy with his knockout, and he walked away. I’m so gracious for that. I will forever remember that.”

Following the scary knockout, Joe Rogan quickly became frustrated while commentating because UFC personnel tried to quickly move Bryce Mitchell out of the Octagon instead of letting him sit. Now that he’s recovered, Mitchell revealed he agrees with the legendary podcast.

During the previously mentioned reaction video, ‘Thug Nasty’ thanked Joe Rogan and the UFC for getting him mental attention:

“I can’t remember anything actually until they sat me down in that gurney in the back of the ambulance. Everything where it appears that I wake up and I’m talking to Dana [White] and talking to everybody, I don’t remember none of that. That’s not even me there. That’s like blackout drunk. I can’t remember nothing nothing…Thank you the UFC for how you handled that, and thank you Joe Rogan for being the one who stepped up on the microphone and making sure that it was known that I needed medical attention because you could tell I couldn’t walk.”

Bryce Mitchell has lost two of his last three fights after starting his professional MMA career with a 15-0 record. ‘Thug Nasty’ will likely need to endure a lengthy layoff, but he’s only 29 years old, so the Arkansas native shouldn’t be counted out as a potential title contender moving forward.
