Michael Bisping Has Issues With Colby Covington Calling Out Dustin Poirier: “There Are A Lot Of Names He Has Yet To Fight”

Bisping thinks there a lot more options for Colby Covington outside of Dustin Poirier.

What’s next for Colby Covington? Well, it shouldn’t be Dustin Poirier or Kamaru Usman ‘anytime soon’, says Michael Bisping.

The #1 UFC welterweight contender is coming off a dominant win over his former friend and bitter rival Jorge Masvidal. ‘Chaos’ is now in a weird position. He is ranked No. 1 in the welterweight division; however, he has lost twice to champion Kamaru Usman. He called out another former teammate in Dustin Poirier during his post-fight interview.

Trilogy?

Of course, Covington also wants a third fight with Usman. Bisping says the pair will fight again, just not anytime soon.

If Colby keeps winning, then eventually he is going to fight Kamaru Usman again. He will. ” Bisping said on his YouTube channel. “Kamaru is lapping people, he’s looking for new talent and new competition but if Colby Covington continues to win fights then he will fight Kamaru Usman. But I don’t think that should be anytime soon.I just don’t. He just fought him twice, with Tyron Woodley in the middle. What he needs to do is basically defend his position as the No. 2 welterweight on the planet.”

Covington’s Resume

Bisping then kind of picked apart some of Covington’s wins

“The reason I say that, and I’m not talking shit about Colby, he is an tremendous fighter and has had a great career and he gave Kamaru Usman a good fight last time out,” Bisping continued. “Congratulations on a great performance over the weekend but he beat Jorge [Masvidal] – he was coming off losses to Kamaru. Prior to that he beat Robbie Lawler, whos best days are behind him. Rafael Dos Anjos, that was a good win but he moved up from lightweight to welterweight. Demian Maia, who I think is retired, isn’t he?

“You see what I’m saying? But when you look at the welterweight rankings, there are a lot of names on there that Colby hasn’t fought.

No Thank You

Bisping disagreed with Covington’s call out of Poirer this past weekend. He understands why he wants the fight and why the UFC would entertain it, but he doesn’t like that Covington is fighting out of his weight class.

Now we know, Colby after the fight called out Dustin Poirier. Called him out on the microphone, called him out in the press conference, called him out every which way he can. You might think this is great! Another grudge match.

“The reality is Dustin Poirier is a lightweight. That is my only issue with it. I would enjoy the fight but he’s a lightweight and that is the issue. [Covington] is the No. 2 welterweight on the planet. If you look at the welterweight rankings, there are a lot of names he has yet to fight.”
