- John McCarthy backed Julianna Pena to beat Amanda Nunes again
- McCarthy doesn’t believe that the UFC cares about Nate Diaz
Big John talked about two of the hottest upcoming fights in mixed martial arts. First, is the highly-anticipated rematch between Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes at UFC 277, and the other is Nate Diaz’s headlining bout against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279.
Big John backed Julianna Pena to defeat Amanda Nunes
In the recent episode of the Weighing In Podcast, Big John shared his take on the title rematch. He believes Pena has a good chance of coming out on top.
“Amanda needs to be in that stand-up, controlling the pace and location of the fight. She does that, she’ll be fine. When someone presses her and makes her work past that comfort zone, we’ve seen it too many times in the past, Amanda has a hard time. She had a great run, I’m not taking anything away from what she did. She’s been fantastic for a long time but sometimes you just get to that point.
“I know that Amanda is the favorite in this fight again. I look at it, and I go, ‘I still think Julianna’s got a very good shot of beating her again.'”
McCarthy doesn’t think UFC ‘give a sh*t’ about Nate Diaz
Big John doesn’t believe that the UFC cares about Nate Diaz, and believes it to be just business for them. Co-host Josh shared his views on the matter in a similar tone.
“When you fight out your contract, they don’t give a sh*t. They’re looking to get you beat.”
“This is one of those ones you look, and you go, ‘oh, it’s f**ked up.’ It’s business. You gotta look at it as a business. You run your career as a business. They run their promotion as a business. It has nothing to do with feelings. It has to do with what is best for my business.”
Nunes will face Pena for a second time at UFC 277 on July 30.
