- Alexander Volkanovski opened up about his emotional UFC 294 post fight press conference
- “The Great” is positive about bouncing back stronger
Alexander Volkanovski looked back on his emotional breakdown during his UFC 294 post fight presser following his KO loss to Islam Makhachev. The featherweight champ explained that it was a tough time but he wasn’t dealing with mental health issues or any of the sort.
Even the strongest of men cry sometimes
Speaking to Who The Fook Are These Guys? Podcast, “The Great” reflected on it and confessed that he used to be strong but sometimes, he also gets dejected and reduced to tears. Nevertheless, Volk remains optimistic about getting back on his feet and winning again.
“You’ve seen me at my most vulnerable. I’m okay with that. I had mixed emotions about people seeing me like that straight after but then the more I thought about it, I was like, ‘This is a positive.’ … I’m usually the rock, ready to take on everything all the time. I mean sometimes I can get a bit much but there’s a lot of people that don’t know what makes them tick… People could see that even the strongest of men, most resilient of men can still get vulnerable here and there,” Volkanovski said.
“Even these guys… that strong men will still have these moments. Then they come back and they’re you know, the best in the world [again],” he added.
Volk is fine
Volkanovski also pointed out that he is still fortunate as he is well aware that he is not suffering from mental health issues unlike others.
“Everyone’s going to have little moments, like again, there’s people that have serious mental health issues like I’ll be honest, I don’t. Again, everyone gets uncomfortable [but] there’s some people that obviously in a way worse position than me,” he concluded.
Volkanovski is back in the featherweight division and is set to defend his title against No. 5 contender Ilia Topuria at UFC 298. Volk will try and complete his sixth title defense while Topuria and will come in and make the best out of his first UFC title shot after going unbeaten in his pro MMA career.
