Alexander Gustafsson Talks Jon Jones’ Recent Run

Alexander Gustafsson is not competing in MMA anymore. However, if he were to make a comeback, he knows he would have work to do in order to beat Jon Jones.

Few people know the UFC’s Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones, like Alexander Gustafsson. One of only two people to ever face Jones twice, Gustafsson has seen first hand what he can do. While their first meeting was extremely close, their second was not at all.

Considering the fact that he is the closest anybody has come to beating Jones, Gustafsson knows how hard that is. In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, he spoke about how difficult it will be to dethrone the champ. In fact, he is not sure there is anybody now who can do it.

“Till now, I am not certain there is someone to beat him. But like with everything, there will come somebody.”

Gustafsson went on to talk about Jones’ most recent title defenses. Both of his previous two fights were against Middleweights, who had moved up. According to Gus, this would make his job harder, if he decided to come out of retirement.

“The division is really interesting now, as there are lot of young guns coming up in the rankings – and also middleweights moving up. It is really interesting times now. So we old dogs needs to work harder.”

Furthermore, Gustafsson spoke on how close Jones’ last fight was, against Thiago Santos. The fight ended up being a split decision, something Gustafsson did not even do, despite how close their first fight was.

“I thought Jones won, but he only did enough to win like he has always done lately. But that is also the sign of a champion.”

Currently, Alexander Gustafsson has not made any announcement to come back to the UFC. If he did, it would be interesting to see how he stacked up against these new contenders he is talking about.
