The differences between The Last of Us on PS3 and PS4 are subtle at best

A big part of what has defined this new generation of consoles thus far has been re-releases from the last generation. If you look at E3 and a lot of the schedule for this year it is re-releases of the big games from last generation. That’s not particularly a bad thing, although it would be nice to get some new games at some point. For the PlayStation 4 the game that has everyone talking is The Last of Us Remastered.

The Last of Us was, for a lack of a better phrase, a system-mover. If you look at last year’s sales for PlayStation 3, when The Last of Us came out it moved systems. So Sony is definitely not taking a gamble when it comes to re-releasing The Last of Us on PlayStation 4. In fact, it is the safest thing that they could do while waiting for Naughty Dog’s next Uncharted game.

The question on many minds right now is; is it really worth repurchasing The Last of Us for full price on the PlayStation 4?

This comparison trailer tells a few different stories about The Last of Us Remastered. The first thing being that if you were expecting it to look a ton better, you were a bit off. The Last of Us Remastered will not look that much better than The Last of Us on PS3. Why? Because The Last of Us looked fantastic and this would require a ton of special attention to make it that much of an improvement. What’s interesting is that a lot of the cutscenes are going to look very, very similar because of how they were rendered, it’ll be the actual gameplay that looks better.

So of course, the big thing will be 1080p vs. 720p. The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 will be 1080p while The Last of Us on PS3 was only 720p.
