Profile

Stephen Thompson is known for emphasizing the importance of wild training – he prefers to train a lot outdoors since he believes it is a better way to improve conditioning and clear his mind. He has one of the best kicks ever seen in Welterweight division and lightning-fast punches. His most dangerous weapons are right Brazilian kick to the head and spinning hook kick. He is a southpaw but he switches stances during the fight. His favorite punches are jabs and crosses.

Stephen Thompson is a very flexible fighter. Wonderboy is a real master of Tetsushin-ryū Kempo – a 6th dan black belt! He is also a black belt in American Kickboxing, 1st dan black belt in Jujutsu, and a brown belt in BJJ. He likes to keep the fight standing and execute long-range strikes. Thompson is also known for truly amazing calisthenics. He has never been knocked out in the octagon!

His right knee is a great weapon in the clinch. If he is forced to ground fighting, Stephen Thompson tries to utilize his good submission defense and stand up as soon as possible. He prefers punches over submission attempts. His takedown defense is good, but Wonderboy prefers defending it with explosive movements before the opponent even initiates a contact with his body.
