Why Garry Tonon took the red pill & is on the rise towards greatness

Garry Tonon MMA

It’s hard to look at Garry Tonon as “just a fighter” but in the light of a psychotic fight genius. Breaking certain situations down in the most slimming way brings neutralized prosperity; attention to detail where no one else gets in the way of greatness. Being only 27 years old, Tonon has already mastered a wealth of fight knowledge beating the likes of: Dillan Danis, Shinya Aoki, Vinny Māgalhaes and Kit Dale in jiu jitsu and grappling competitions.

Now Tonon has set his sights towards MMA with ONE Championship, the premiere Asia organization where we saw Americans Eddie Alvarez and Sage Northcutt lose by first round stoppage.

Tonon is on the right track to his first MMA title shot after keeping an undefeated 5-0 record all by stoppage. His most recent win was against Yoshiki Nakahara during ONE: Enter The Dragon at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Toshiki was caught with a successful heel hook from his opponent Tonon. During that moment the crowd was overjoyed with a quickness as everything inside the cage began to ensue.

When you think about Randy Couture it is hard to not thinking about Tonon.

Because that is how the UFC Hall of Famer, Couture, used himself to look his own fights; just break it down in a certain way and go. Couture could break down, in a 10 min conversation, what is going to happen first hand. It’s a cleaver way to work your brain. When Couture goes into detail on what his opponent is doing, the fighter knows what is going to happen before it happens on some Final Destination way of life.

Tonon isn’t just a jiu jitsu master in our eyes but happens to be a fantastic coach as well. Nicky Ryan, a BJJ phenomenon, beat out Eddie Bravo’s top fighters from 10th Planet. Now Ryan is currently recovering off a no-gi featherweight title win against the UFC Hall of Famer aka The California Kid, Urijah Faber. Having a 17 year old kid face a 40 year old man isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a match. Ryan is the brother of the reigning ADCC champion, Gordon Ryan. Meanwhile, all these impressive BJJ fighters train with the one and only coach, John Danaher.

It is well noted that Tonon doesn’t stay at one place at one time. The modern day Professor X of jiu jitsu molding these new aged youngsters into abnormal prodigies in the most positive way possible. Given that everything he touches embeds knowledge; what Tonon sets his mind to and/or into is incredible to watch.

The way Tonon’s mind carries on is a given that his fighting career needs to be watched closely from here on out. It really isn’t about the opponent anymore and that is what we are learning with each fight and each post-fight interview. It is really about rising yourself up into the Super Sayian that you know you can be. For Tonon it is very hard to ignore those factors when “The Lion Killer” keeps proving it with every fight.
