Nicco Montano: ‘I Think Deep Down Valentina Shevchenko Was Really Hoping This Fight Wouldn’t Happen’

Nicco Montano Believes That ‘Deep Down’ Valentina Shevchenko Never Wanted To Face Her At UFC 228

UFC women’s flyweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko said last week that she still has a hard time believing inaugural champion Nicco Montano will show up for UFC 228. During the media day, ‘Bullett’ said when Nicco stepped into the Octagon only she’ll believe the fight is happening.

It turned out that ‘Bullet’s’ prediction was correct the title bout scrapped off after Montano transported to the hospital before the weigh-ins over health concerns.

Montano appeared at a recent episode of The MMA Hour, where she said it was Shevchenko who was hoping that this title fight shouldn’t happen because she was scared to fight someone like me.

“I think she lives in la la land for a reason. I think she really wanted that to happen, unless she’s another Mrs. Cleo and has a (psychic) job, because she’s good at that.

“But I think she was hoping for it. I think she’s a little scared to fight somebody like me. I think deep down she was hoping this fight was not going to happen so that she could have more ammo to be a cyber bully and she wouldn’t have to face me in the Octagon.”

UFC president Dana White stripped Montano of her title after pulling out of UFC 228 co-main event. Now Shevchenko will eventually get her shot at the gold against an opponent that will be determined.

Company head honcho teased he already got a name in mind for the match-up. Some speculation implies that name is former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

What do you think of Montano’s statement about Shevchenko?
