  • “Bullet” is likely to need about three months before she gets cleared to fight again.

Valentina Shevchenko confirmed that she will have to undergo surgery for her hand following Noche UFC and might be out of action for three straight months.

Out for a while

Providing an update on social media, “Bullet” revealed that her hand injury which she incurred in the first round of her rematch against Alexa Grasso is requiring immediate surgery.

“Yesterday got the results on my 1st round hand injury,” Shevchenko wrote. “Comminuted fracture that requires surgery.”

In a more detailed report from MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin, the former UFC women’s flyweight champ might need about three months before she could fully recover.

“Valentina Shevchenko is headed for surgery on the broken thumb she suffered in her rematch with Alexa Grasso at #NocheUFC,” he tweeted. “From what I’m told, Shevchenko’s recovery time should be approximately 3 months until she can make contact again.”

A trilogy match might not happen

Right after the controversial split draw with Grasso, Shevchenko already said that she is not thinking about calling for an instant title fight rematch, which will be their third meeting if ever. For “Bullet,” it is important to be 100% healthy first.

The draw saw Grasso retaining her women’s flyweight belt. She made it clear that she is not bothered by the questionable 10-8 scorecard by judge Mike Bell and if a trilogy match would not be possible, she’d be happy to face a new challenger.
