Ryan Garcia Finishes Oscar Duarte in the Eighth Round via TKO – Garcia vs. Duarte Results (Highlights)

Garcia got back into the win column with an impressive eighth-round finish of Duarte on Saturday night.

Eight months removed from his first professional defeat, junior welterweight superstar Ryan Garcia will look to bounce back from his TKO loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

In the months since his defeat, Garcia has been embroiled in controversy, but not with his opponent or the opposing camp. Instead, Garcia has been at odds with his own promoters, Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions. ‘The Mexican Lion’ will try to put all of that behind him as he steps inside the squared circle for a scrap with Oscar Duarte. 

Round 1

Ryan Garcia comes out pumping the jab early. Duarte fires back with a jab to the body. Garcia uncorks a left followed by a hook to the body that lands. Duarte throws a big left hook. Garcia goes back to the jab as Duarte circles the ring. Garcia continues throwing the jab as Duarte follows him and throws a looping left hand. Duarte is putting his head down and moving in, looking to land big early. Duarte comes up short on a big right hand but continues to lurch forward as Garcia finds early success with the jab.

Round 2

Ryan Garcia comes out with the jab before unleashing a big right hand. Duarte responds with a left. Duarte pushes in and ties up with Garcia in the corner before being separated. Garcia lands a left as Duarte partially connects with the right. Duarte goes to the body with a left followed by a right as Garcia circles away. A left hand from Duarte connects as Garcia struggles to muster up much offense outside of the jab. Garcia lands a nice right hand on the button of Duarte. Both fighters go downstairs as the round ends. 

Round 3

They come out trading jabs, but Duarte lands a solid right hand in close. Duarte continues to target the body, but Garcia responds with a 1-2 up top that connects. Duarte looks for a left, but Garcia ducks under and Duarte lands to the back, generating a warning from the referee. A right hand from Duarte lands and Garcia fires with with a right that just misses. A left from Garcia gets a reaction from the crowd. He followed it up with a two-punch combo as Duarte pressed him into the corner.

Duarte again goes to the body, but the referee believes it hit Garcia’s back, resulting in another warning. Garcia throws a right hand from a distance that glances off Duarte as the round ends. 

Round 4

Ryan Garcia opens the round with a nice 1-2. Duarte responds by putting pressure on Garcia and attacking the body. Duarte throws a left, but the referee again warns Duarte, this time for a blow to the back of the head even though Garcia blatantly turned his back. The crowd is getting frustrated by the constant warnings. A jab from Garcia lands as Duarte stalks but is hesitant to pull the trigger.

Duarte catches Garcia in the corner and unloads a flurry of blows upstairs and down. Duarte appears to land low on Garcia which once again earns him a warning. Garcia pumps the jab before throwing a left hand. Duarte attempts to respond with a looping right hand but misses the mark as the fourth round bell sounds.

Round 5

Duarte comes out with a jab followed by a 1-2. Garcia fires back with a three-punch combo and a big right hand. Duarte starts letting his hands go, landing shots on any target Garcia will give him. Garcia starts picking up the aggression, but that seemingly plays into Duarte’s game plan to make the fight dirty. Duarte again closes the distance leading Garcia to once again turn his back. Duarte goes to the body followed by a big left hand upstairs. 

Duarte is landing clean as Garcia continues to turn his body to absorb strikes. Garcia then goes low which gets him a warning just before the round ends. 

Round 6

Duarte attempts to walk Garcia down and he eats an uppercut in the process.. Garcia begins to look for an opening to land the uppercut. Duarte lands a left hook to the body. Garcia comes back with a combination that’s partially blocked and Duarte attacks the body as Garcia once again turns away. Duarte is struggles to find an opening for his right hand. He compensates by throwing a left to the body which connects. Duarte goes upstairs with a right hand followed by a combo to the body. Garcia responds with an uppercut that backs Duarte up. They trade blows against the ropes as the round ends.

Round 7

Duarte comes out on the offensive, but a lightning-quick right hand from Garcia connects followed by another. Duarte is beginning to slow as his attempt to land a combo catches nothing, but Garcia’s gloves. Duarte absorbs a hard shot as he closes the distance, but manages to land a blow to Garcia’s body. Garcia continues to stay light on his feet as he rifles a right hand followed by a left hand as he circles away from Duarte. The crowd begins to boo, not appreciating Garcia’s defensive tactics, but the game plan most likely winning him the fight. 

Round 8

Duarte continues to be aggressive but is no longer throwing any strikes. Garcia’s offense also begins to stagnate. Garcia lands a left hook from Garcia as continues to circle the ring. Duarte is struggling to find Garcia, but he lands a left which leads to another flurry of strikes. Duarte is warned by the referee for a rabbit punch. Garcia lands a check left hook that wobbles Duarte. Smelling blood in the water, Garcia unleashes a flurry of strikes and Duarte takes a knee near the ropes. Duarte doesn’t quite get up in time to meet the referee’s standing eight-count but wants to continue. The referee doesn’t agree and calls for the stoppage.
