Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao returned to the boxing ring on Saturday night against South Korean martial artist DK Yoo. Making his boxing debut at the Korea International Exhibition Center in Goyang, South Korea, Yoo faced Pacquaio in a six-round exhibition bout in the main event of a FITE TV pay-per-view extravaganza.
Round 1
Manny Pacquiao landed a solid jab to open things in the first. Pacquiao doubled up on the jab while Yoo struggled to find his target from a distance. Pacquiao throws a left to the body and Yoo returns fire with a straight left. An amused Pacquiao returns fire, delivering another shot to the body that’s a little too low from the referee’s point of view, drawing a warning.
Round 2
Pacquiao blocks a jab from Yoo and delivers his own, continuing to target the body. Pacquiao delivers another followed by a right hand that lands for Pacquiao. Yoo dodges fire, but a jab from Pacquiao connects. Yoo throws a 1-2 combination. A right-hand lands for Pacquiao, but Yoo is able to dodge a follow-up overhand.
Round 3
Pacquiao lands with the right hand, then another. Yoo counters with a solid left and Pacquiao delivers a beautiful left to the body of Yoo. Pacquiao begins to advance, but Yoo stops his forward momentum with a jab. Pacquiao lands a solid jab of his own. Pacquiao delivers a right hook that forces Yoo to clinch. Yoo throws a big looping strike, but misses and pays for it with a three-hit combo from Pacquiao.
Round 4
Pacquiao begins to move forward, looking to punish Yoo in the fourth. Yoo is beginning to tire as Pacquiao rips to the body and follows it up with a right. Yoo fires back with a right of his own that connects. Pacquiao goes back to the body, pushing Yoo to the ropes. Yoo moves in and Pacquiao counters. Yoo drops to a knee, but the referee rules it a slip. Pacquiao closes out the round with a barrage of strikes that nearly justified a stoppage, but Yoo survives.
Round 5
Yoo looking especially labored as he comes out for the fifth round. Pacquaio lands a big left hand that wobbles Yoo. Pacquiao sticks with the left which continues to land at will. It’s then that the referee pauses the action to warn Pacquiao of a shot to the back of the head. Yoo takes his time during the pause, using it as an opportunity to rest and recover. The fight resumes with Pacquiao in complete control. Yoo is unable to muster any type of offense as the round comes to a close.
Round 6
Pacquiao comes out firing on all cylinders. Yoo once again drops to his knee, getting a moment to compose himself. Pacquiao delivers a massive right hand that drops Yoo. Yoo answers the referee’s count and the referee appears to give Yoo some sort of a time-out. Yoo goes after Pacquiao, looking to get back into the fight, but Pacquaio drops another bomb on Yoo followed by a flurry by Pacquiao that once again drops Yoo. Somehow, the referee calls the knockdown a slip allowing Yoo to continue until the final bell.
