KSI, real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, returned to the squared circle on Saturday for a six-round main event showdown against Joe Fournier.
Emanating from the OVO Arena Wembley in London, the two undefeated standouts went toe-to-toe at Misfits & DAZN: X Series 007 KSI entered the bout 3-0 while Fournier boasted a record of 9-0 with one no contest and nine wins by way of knockout.
KSI came out with hand hands down and targeted the body of Fournier early. KSI lands a solid right hand followed by another. The two fighters tie up and KSI pushes Fournier to the canvas. Fournier is rushing in without much of a strategy as KSI remains light on his feet. The right hand from KSI narrowly misses. He follows that up with a combination that has Fournier running. KSI jabs the body then goes upstairs and things begin to settle down following a frenetic start. KSI moves in prompting Fournier to clinch and the round comes to a close.
Straight left from KSI to start the round. KSI throws a looping right and Fournier responds with a combination. A right hand from Fournier lands. Both fighters are showing a lot of patience after starting fast. KSI lands a nasty overhand right hand that sends Fournier running. KSI pursues and lands what appears to be a right hook, sending Fournier crashing to the canvas unconscious.
Upon reviewing the replay, the blow that ended things was an elbow delivered by KSI and not a legal strike. The referee did not see it, therefore the bout was ruled a second-round knockout for KSI. In an in-ring interview, KSI insisted that it was an overhand right and not an elbow despite video evidence clearly showing that his win was the result of an illegal blow.
Official Result: KSI def. Joe Fournier via KO (strikes) at 1:25 of Round 2.
