Jake Paul Getting KO’d by Mike Tyson Would Be an ‘All-Time Backfire’ According to Daniel Cormier: ‘Everything’s Done’

'DC' thinks a loss to Tyson would do irreparable damage to Pauls' boxing career.

Jake Paul might be in a lose-lose situation against Mike Tyson.

On Friday, November 15, ‘The Problem Child’ will make his 12th walk to the ring when he squares off with ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet‘ inside the 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Paul is coming off a sixth-round TKO victory over BKFC star ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry in July.

Meanwhile, the 58-year-old Tyson will be competing in his first professional boxing bout in more than 20 years.

Looking ahead to their highly anticipated clash on Netflix, former UFC two-division champion Daniel Cormier believes Paul’s youthfulness will likely pose the biggest problem for Tyson, though he can’t deny that ‘Iron’ still has something left in the tank.

“I do agree when [Tyson’s] hitting pads with Rafael Cordeiro, it looks like there’s still something left in there,” Cormier said on his Funky and the Champ podcast with Ben Askren. “But then I watch Jake Paul fight Mike Perry. I watch Jake Paul get pressed to where he starts to feel uncomfortable, and it looked like Mike Perry had a chance. But then Jake has a reserve tank to go to and get and draw from because he’s 28 years old.

“Then he comes back and ultimately finishes Mike Perry. Early in the fight, Mike Perry is getting beat on, dropped, he looks out-maned, he looks outmatched. …That is my concern, because what if this looks like a 58-year-old man fighting a 28-year-old man, where Mike can’t draw from that reserve tank to stay and compete with this young kid? I think it’s a lose-lose for Jake Paul because if you beat up Mike Tyson, everybody loves Mike Tyson.”

Getting KO’d by Tyson Could End Jake Paul’s Boxing Career

However, if Tyson manages to pull off the upset and put Paul’s lights out, ‘DC’ thinks it could do irreparable damage to the YouTuber’s reputation within the boxing community.

“What if Mike knocks him out, though? Then it’s over,” Cormier added. “Everything’s done. It would be an all-time backfire. Nothing’s ever been done like that in the history of the sport if he gets knocked out.”

Thus far, Jake Paul is 10-1 in his boxing career with seven of his victories coming by way of knockout. He suffered his first and only loss against Tommy Fury in February 2023, coming up short on two of the three judge’s scorecards. He has since rattled off four-straight wins, seeing his hand raised against the likes of ex-UFC star Nate Diaz and the aforementioned Mike Perry.

Paul has never faced an opponent as powerful or as credentialed as Mike Tyson, but he will carry a significant advantage come fight night given their 31-year age gap.
